Grafton Plans for Future Running of the South Grafton Cup

Many plans are already in place to make the 2016 edition of the Grafton July Racing Carnival the best Carnival ever. There will be a special marquee set up for important visitors or groups of race goers, and even tennis style boxes called premier seating boxes, will be available for viewers. The program for the races has already been published, and the South Grafton Cup will be run on Sunday 10 July next year.

The South Grafton Cup is run over a distance of 1600 metres, and carries a prize of 50,000 dollars. It is one of the important races run during the carnival hosted annually in the town of Grafton by the Clarence River Jockey Club. There will be the usual fashion competitions on the Cup day, with lots of live music and other entertainments designed to appeal to the local population as well as the crowds of visitors that flock to the town of Grafton every winter. There will be plans to cater for larger groups of visitors, and any business wishing to have their private marquee for the races.

Grafton is “Jacaranda City”

Grafton is the seat of local government and the business hub of the Clarence River Valley in New South Wales, Australia. It is an attractive town, dubbed the “Jacaranda City” and holds a Jacaranda Festival every year in October and November. It is situated about 630 kilometres north of Sydney, and only about 35 kilometres away from the Pacific Ocean coast. Grafton city was established in 1831, and the main industries consist of cattle farming, logging, sugar farming and fishing. Horse racing is so important to the population of Grafton, that a half day public holiday is held every year to celebrate the running of the main horse race in the carnival, the Grafton Cup. The South Grafton Cup is another of the important races that is part of the winter carnival.

The Clarence River Jockey Club was founded in the same year as the first Melbourne Cup was held. Grafton races have grown to the extent that they are now regarded as one of the major horse racing online betting events to be held outside the metropolitan areas.
